Artist's Comments

This is the first in the series I have decided to call "Family Profiles".

Starting with the oldest. This is my grandmother photographed at her deceased sister's house. We were clearing the house for things, and I shot this while she was looking out the kitchen window probably thinking about her late sister. I like how the light accentuates her face and features and the little smile on her face.

The second shot of this series, can be found here.

    Location: Spikkestad, Roeyken. Norway,
    Lens: Canon EF 70-200 f/4L USM. Hand-held.

It is a little noisy in the shadows, I know, but that was the only way I could shoot this one without using an external light source. Shot with natural light.

Great shot, hampered as you point out by the noise in the background. Just a suggestion but when i have problems such as this, i spend a few minutes with different brushes to blur the background. This would be easier with this shot because you could use the magnetic lasso tool and then apply a blurring filter. Apologies if you didn't want to know this.

Nothing matters very much and theres not much that matters.

No no no. Thanks for the suggestion! Hadn't though about that. I'll give it a go and see how it turns out.

Again, thanks.

I almost never set out to photograph a landscape, nor do I think of my camera as a means of recording a mountain or an animal unless I absolutely need a 'record shot'. My first thought is always of light. -Galen Rowell

I like this a lot... the contrast is very good and the sharpness suits it perfectly...

Very Nice! Love how it fades to dark on the edge of the frame. Really buts a nice effect to an excelent subject.
