This is an old-style lighthouse from the 16th century. The "bowl" hanging from the beam was filled with firewood (coal also) and set fire to. The beam was lowered to the ground so they could light it. It is built with round stones and some masonry has been done to keep it all together.
This lighthouse is located at "Verdens Ende" ("The End of The World") in south-eastern Norway.
Location: Verdens Ende, Tjøme. Tønsberg. Norway. Temperature: 2 degrees Celsius. Wind: Calm Camera: Canon EOS 400D DIGITAL Lens: Tokina 12-24 @ 14mm/f16. Post-processing: 4 layered exposures. Manual blend. Curves, b/w conversion with gradient map, slight deep blue tint, unsharp mask.
I'm very satisfied with the Tokina. It is very sharp between f/11 and f/20. And the 12 mm at the lower end fits me very nice. Of course you will notice the extra 2 mm with the Sigma but I believe the Tokina has a better build quality (very sturdy built. Somewhat heavy) and is better optically. That is what ultimately made me buy it. The price is of course very favorable. I also like that you can use f/4 at all the focal lenghts.
I was going through the same process as you are now before I bought it and all the reviews and such I read were very favorable to the Tokina. Even vs. the 10-22 Canon (which is of course a better lens but somewhat more expensive).
So if you do not need the 10 mm I would definately advise you to go for the Tokina 12-24. It is truly a wonderful lens for landscape/waterscape/architecture stuff.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the composition on this one. Very balanced and as you say, simple.

Takk takk.

btw are you satisfied with your Tokina? I am beginning to look for a wide-angle lens and my sight is currently on that Tokina or Sigma 10-20.
