Magnificent light at my all-time favorite location. After a long time without any luck at this particular location I decided to try my luck on an otherwise grey, dull and cold Saturday in November. The skies had been dense the entire day, but an hour or so before sunset, the clouds began to break. This gave me the opportunity to shoot in fanastic conditions with the light being just marvellous.

No wind, -3 degrees Celsius, sun shining behind not too thick clouds. Just great!

Two photos stitched vertically. Original print resolution is 4050x4050px at 300PPI. Both photos are tree-exposures blended manually. Contrast enhancements and slight color enhancement done in post-processing.

I want to take a second to again thank you guys or the support of my work. I should probably take a little time one of these days to go through my huge inbox here at dA and get a little up to date. Not to mention all the people I watch. I have to browse through the over 3000 deviations from you guys which I haven't really had the time to look at yet.

Work is busy and the little spare-time I get nowadays I just have to use for other real-world commitements. Not to mention going out with my camera. I cherish every second I can get with the camera now.

Have a great weekend guys!
- Anders

This is just great!
Reminds me of Kate Bush's "Aerial" in many ways...

Oh, yes, best light there is
Simple, elegant and so well balanced. I love the pastel tones and the reflections.
A real pleasure to look at.
Great work Anders!

Tonemapping? I clearly have to update my 5 yr old software and learn ... a lot!

Beautiful picture, I have had so few lucky moments like this in the last few months. Just got to stick at it I suppose.

BTW I see you are from Norway - I'm planing to visit this year for a few weeks (if I can save enough) When is the best time of year do you think?

i absolutely love how still this is, and just lovely.
the colours are very helpful and pleasing to the eye - but i love the break of "peace" with the 2 rocks.

the light is excellent
i think it would be worth seeing a composition without the rocks, while it would not have the same focal point, it might serve as a good wall print :)

oh! reflection! not shadow! I knew shadow wasn't the right word I wanted to use, but I couldn't think of the right word! hehe!!!

wow, it's very interesting how that shot turned out. it's as if those rocks were computer generated onto the photo. odd how that happend. must be an illusion from the clear water and the shadow of the sky on top of it.

Pent! Artig at det er to bilder i høyden, trudde først det var et vanlig bilde croppa som vanlig. Blir jo betydelig bedre oppløsning på evt prints sånn sett :>

I think one of the tests of a great photo is how much emotion/reaction it evokes from the viewer, and this one just exudes bliss and peacefulness in a powerful way. Gorgeous.

I always enjoy seeing your work at this scene Anders.
Beautiful clean composition with great balance, and I think the focal length was a great choice. If this had been shot at 17mm, even getting closer to the rocks would have pushed that wonderful light away...a really good decision.

I feel for you with having real life take away your shooting's the way it goes I guess, which I why I find myself always looking forward to the next long weekend or trip away because right now I don't have a single free evening in a week anymore. I was away this weekend and had two nights shooting, but when you only get a couple of evenings every month or so, it puts a real pressure on the weather to perform, and to not make bad choices when we are actually out shooting.
Of the two nights I had, I wasted a sunset by making bad compositional choices, and then almost the other one by composing from the wrong place....I just salvaged some shots at the end of the session.
So I know how you feel, but I always look forward to seeing your work and hearing from you.

Take care mate, have a good week.

Thanks for your kind words Andy. Appreciated!

I'm actually so-so satisfied with this shot now that I've let it linger for a while. I believe some stronger contrasts would have made it more dramatic. On the other side though, the image holds up quite well with the serenity of the sunset and the calmness of it all.

17 mm would have been way too much here I agree. With 32 mm I could get away with it and those rocks would have been way too far out with the extreme wide angle.

Talking about free time, I actually have had quite a lot of free time lately, but the skies haven't been on my side. Normal November weather has arrived here in Norway and that means rain, fog and snow all day long. Oh well.

Take care you too Andy and enjoy your working week :)

I tend to live with my shots for a couple of weeks before I decide whether I like them or not...often with slightly different versions. When I'm processing, I often find myself pushing things a bit further in terms of contrast and colour, and thinking it looks OK...but after a week or so, I look back at the versions I've done alongside each other and decide that I like the ones which I left slightly less contrast-y.

As for free time....right now I just don't have any. During the week I work through the sunset, I live too far away from the countryside or coast to be able to get out there for a sunrise on a working day, and my none working days are occupied with the Rural project we're doing in the south. At the moment, I just shoot when we get away for long weekends, which we manage every 6 weeks or so.
Still, at Christmas I'll have a break in southern Spain....not sure what opportunities I'll get for my kind of photography in the small white-washed villages, but I'm hoping to see some snow in Sierra Nevada, and maybe get some dawn mist in the valleys shots. I'm most looking forward to a trip I'll do in March, when we go to Umbria and Tuscany for 10 day. Everybody knows San Quirico d'Orcia in Tuscany, but I can't wait to shoot it...Umbria though is less well known and photographed.
I get my D3 next Monday (with the 176-35 and 80-400) but I just don't see when I'm going to get the chance to use it right now :-(

i think that every photographer got some location particulary special for shooting.. mine is a lake not far away from my house (one pict of it is in my home).. when i saw a gorgeous sky my thought goes always to that place and i get anger because i miss a good photo one more time :P i'm still not satisfied with the result i've got!!

congratulation for you shot :)
